Curator YUKASA NARISADA

STATEMENTS:

The word "bodily timidity" in the title of the exhibition is based on the mentality of women who underestimate their own physicality, as pointed out by Iris Marion Young in "Throwing like a Girl" and others. We are now rethinking "gender, body, and architecture," a topic discussed almost 20 years ago, from the perspective of today's words and perspectives. Can we discuss this theme from a more moderate point of view, away from the history of modernism and the modern image of the human being, which demands a kind of "perfection"? The "My Bodily Timidity" is the artist himself/ herself, the unique body of someone else assumed in his/ her work, or the image of "yourself" thought by you, the visitors.
